The general contractor's license is a catch all license for those builders who specialize in more than one or two trades. Most new home builders have a general contractor's license so that they are covered for all aspects of new home construction. Specialized contractors, like landscapers or carpet layers, are only required to carry a $6,000.00 bond in Washington States, while general contractors are required to carry a $12,000.00 bond.
